The German group had the majority of young scientist, because it was the Principal Investigator nation with also the biggest group. It has to be mentioned that although Germany had the biggest group of trained students and young researcher, it was less supported by founding organizations which are directly involved in space research. Just 3 of the 14 young researchers were supported annually by space-related agencies and the rest had to get support through other financial resources such as by the support of scientific foundations or integrated in other projects. Italy and Spain were covered practically completely by space research supporting organizations. The other participating nations had the same split of founding support like Germany.
It has to be emphasized, that 6 of the above mentioned students and young researchers got an award for their internationally recognized research (see Table 1.6). Four of them got a research/oral presentation award (first and second price) and two of them a poster award at the EANA (European Astrobiology Network Association 2011â2017) and SCAR Biology 2017 (Scientific Committee of Antarctic Research).
